Professional Bio

Luis Clemens is a former Deputy Managing Editor at NPR. He now splits his time between freelance editing and selling rare books. Historical documents, too. He has edited well over a hundred public radio reporters in 35 states from stations large, small and tiny.

His specialty is breaking news and the art of editing quick-turnaround stories for same-day air.

Clemens began his journalism career in television. He was an assignment editor at the Telemundo and NBC stations in Miami. Later, he joined CNN where he became the network's youngest bureau chief. From Buenos Aires, Clemens ran a regional newsgathering operation for CNN.

He is a native speaker of Spanish. His work has been honored with awards by the Asian American Journalists Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.
