Professional Bio
Meg Martin is a freelance editor, fact-checker and coach. She works with local newsrooms on developing and editing project work, accountability reporting, fact-checking and other editing and workflow needs. She is part of a team that is re-launching the University of Minnesota's Minnesota Journalism Center, focused on supporting and connecting local news organizations across the state.
She spent the 2022-23 academic year as a Knight-Wallace fellow at the University of Michigan, where she explored ways public radio newsrooms can create clearer paths to editing roles -- and connect and support editors once they're in those roles. She has taught editing and audio at the University of Minnesota.
She has rooted her career in local news, most recently as managing editor for regional news and partnerships at Minnesota Public Radio. She has been an editor, project manager, researcher and producer on investigations, projects, podcasts and daily/breaking news. She was part of the team that produced the "74 Seconds" podcast, which was recognized with Peabody, Third Coast and Livingston awards.
She joined the MPR newsroom after stints at the Public Insight Network and The Roanoke Times, where she led the paper’s digital team. She began her journalism career at The Poynter Institute as an editor and fellow, and she holds a B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame.
