Professional Bio
My role at NPR involves supporting member stations' digital capacity in various ways, preparing them for new tools and platforms and troubleshooting all kinds of challenges in the network.
I am an experienced editor, producer and planner in broadcast radio, video and web publishing, including coordinating projects and coverage, editing reporters' stories for air and online, and producing social media and online video. I'm a thinker behind the scenes, with a focus on training and boosting capacity for other staff and experimenting with ways we can connect with audiences effectively. I also work to integrate planning for increasingly digital-minded products and I help organizations gain efficiencies by becoming more web-first.
Prior to my work in public radio I have an entrepreneurial and technical background and experience as a community blogger, small business owner, teacher of software tools and co-founder of a youth zine. I wrote a blog called Urban Compass for several years. I'm a believer in collaborative approaches to journalism with the thinking that small, capable, empowered teams can accomplish big goals and reach audiences effectively with high-quality material that sparks discovery and fruitful conversations.
